Baby's Journey Home

Top survival must haves newborn first 3 months

Now that my baby has grown past the newborn stage, I can tell you the new mum must-haves items that I could not possibly survive without as a first time mum. The following is a list of things that help me make it thorough the tough first 3 months.

You can also have a look at list of baby essential items that are often missed out here.

The first few months with your newborn can be overwhelming. You will never known what to expect with a newborn as each baby has his/her own personality. One thing I can say is that all babies are quite demanding (for love and caring) in the first months of their life.

Must-haves items for the first time mom to survive your newborn the first 3 months

  1. baby bouncer
  2. baby swing
  3. baby sling wrap or baby carrier: we ended up having both baby sling wrap and a more structured baby carrier.
  4. cot bed
  5. Breast feeding cover
  6. Baby activity gym

Baby bouncer

The first must haves item to make you survive when caring for your precious newborn is a baby bouncer. Baby bouncer is another safe and comfy place to leave your baby in when you need your hands for something else for a short while. Bouncer is generally light so it is easy to move around the house with you. So you can keep an eye on your baby at all time for example while getting dress or washing dishes. Another life saver for me!

Baby swing

Swing generally keeps your baby entertained as well as providing comfort. I normally put my son there while having breakfast or lunch. That’s normally keep him happy until I finish my meal. A plus point is that sometimes he even fall asleep in there! My son love the music and all the hanging and rotating animals on Fisher. Safari swing.

Baby sling wrap or baby carrier

Newborns love being close to their mums. My son was especially very clingy and wanted to be carried by me almost all the time. The first 2 months he didnt like to be in a well structured baby carrier at all. The sling wrap carrier is the only way for me to walk around and carry him hand free. I used caboo lite and my son loves being inside so much that he falls asleep in there almost every time. We did ended up using Bjorn baby carrier later on when he don’t mind being in a more structure carrier.

Cot bed

My baby actually hates to sleep in his own cot. However I end up using it as a safe place to leave him when I need to take a shower or wash hands after a nappy change. I ended up using a two-level travelling cot which is surrounded by soft net rather than wooden bars you normally see on a baby cot. I don’t like the idea of hard wooden bars on baby cot. I’m afraid that my son might hit himself or get stuck between the bars. The traveling cot i used comes with bassinet for newborn babies.

Breast feeding cover

This is one of a life saver for me particularly when I go out with my new born. Putting him on my breasts always calm him down if nothing else works. This is the most effective way to stop my baby screaming. Having the cover allow me to breastfeed my son without exposing my breasts in public!

Baby activity gym

The activity gym comes in use a bit later when they start to interested in their surroundings. My son started to enjoy punching hanging toys and shaking rattles when he was approaching three months old. I can leave him lying in there playing  happily by himself for a good 15-20 minutes while I get other stuffs done.
